With 2018 back in full swing, this weekend marks the start of a new year working with the Fiona- Gaye Moore Academy of Irish Dance. Once a month, I get the pleasure of making the trip up to Sydney to treat the dancers of this fine school. Treatment ranges from addressing current injuries that need to be settled quickly in order for the dancers to maintain their intense dance schedules, which is particularly heightened during competition time. I also get the opportunity to work closely with Fiona, the founder and head teacher of the school, providing an Osteopathic perspective to achieving certain mechanics and body alignment desired on dance steps.

My first trip up to Sydney for the year will be this weekend, where I’ll also get the pleasure of observing the students during a dance class and summer workshop. This is a perfect way to start examination on your patient, by observing them do the task that not only contributes or is directly related to acquiring an injury, but also understanding a baseline of the dance mechanics, helping to formulate strategies to improve technique.

Below is a picture of one of the lovely dancers I get to treat from the Fiona-Gaye Moore Academy. Ellie is super committed and eager to further progress the improvements she achieved in 2017. She made the journey down to Melbourne just before Christmas to get a head start on her ankle rehab after a long history of ankle injuries. Perfect time to get on top of during off season!
