If any of you were watching the UFC on Sunday you would have seen Sean O’Malley suffer a painful leg injury. The injury occurred in the third round and up to this point, O’Malley was clearly dominating the fight. Once the injury occurred O’Malley was unable to place his right foot on the ground. Why am I blogging on this you ask? At Everythings Connected we are obsessed with how the individual with there unique constraints self-organize around the task. From the moment O’Malley was hurt his injury formed a constraint altering his strategy on how to win the fight. He could no longer press forward nor could he adequately defend himself standing so he wisely allowed the fight to go to the ground. Clearly leading the fight on points at this stage his strategy became defensive and to wind down the clock. This is an excellent example of how we are task driven and how the individual will organize itself around the goal, dependant on environmental influences and the resources available.
